Article types

Most of our articles fall into one of three types:

Commentary, in which the main contention is that something should or shouldn’t happen, based on analysis (so, typically the article makes a policy recommendation);

Analysis, in which the main contention is an assessment, and commentary is not offered or, at most, only briefly near the bottom; and

Explainers, which are like analyses but tell us only what experts already know, and no commentary is offered.

We get offers of many strong commentaries but, on average, the analyses are stronger.

We also publish book reviews and sometimes news.

A rejoinder article should stand on its own, with only passing mention of the article that the writer disagrees with.
