HMAS WEWAK, a Royal Australian Navy (RAN) BALIKPAPAN Class Landing Craft Heavy (LCH) has conducted an amphibious landing operation with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) personnel in the Solomon Islands.

HMAS WEWAK is currently one of two LCH ships stationed in the Solomon Islands in support of Operation Anode – the ADF contribution to the Australian led RAMSI. The second LCH is HMAS BRUNEI.

Operation ANODE is the name of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) contribution to the Australian led Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI). RAMSI’s mission is to assist the Solomon Islands Government in restoring law and order, economic governance and improving the machinery of government. The military component of RAMSI is comprised primarily of personnel from four troop-contributing nations – Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Tonga. The main task for the military component is to provide security for RAMSI’s multinational Participating Police Force (PPF) who works alongside the RSIPF in maintaining law and order.
